Diagnosis. The yellow margins of both wings are more evident than in the next
species, but less clearly demarcated interiorly by narrow brown lines. There is
a distinct, fine brown postmedial on the hindwing of the next species, and its
discal marks are stronger.
Taxonomic notes. The male genitalia of eugeniata and flagrata are very
similar, indicative of conspecificity. The ground colour of the typical race is
a brighter yellow, with the dark irroration less intense, resulting in a paler,
brighter insect. The margin zones of both wings are clearer yellow, broader,
especially on the hindwing.
Geographical range. Sundaland, Andamans, Palawan (ssp. flagrata); Sulawesi,
S. Moluccas.
Habitat preference. Most material has been taken in lowland forest, but
singletons were taken at 1000m on G. Mulu and at 1618m on Bukit Retak (Brunei).
