Maliattha muluana sp. n. (Plate 3, Fig 109)
G 11mm. The
facies of this species is similar to that of M. flavibasalis Hampson comb. n. and, to a lesser extent, that
of M. mesoplaga Hampson comb. n. (Burma) and of M. vialis Moore (see generic synonymy and Kononenko (2000), who
revised the vialis species group). The basal pale yellowish brown zone
of the forewings is more variegated and less clearly defined, and the grey zone
distal to it is also more variegated, though crossed by similarly crenate
fasciation. The hindwings are very much paler, almost white over the posterior
three‑quarters, except for a faint discal mark and narrow
postmedial fascia. The male genitalia differ fromthose of flavibasalis,
the valves resembling slightly other Bornea Maliattha in having a costal
process and tapering to a squarish apex with a ventral spine and costal
rugosity. There is no bilateral asymmetry. In flavibasalis the valve
lacks a costal process but has a much broader apical margin invested with a row
of about a dozen short, robust setal spines. The aedeagus vesica is spined in muluana
but only lightly scobinate in flavibasalis.
