Belciana bicolor Wileman
& West (Plate 1, Fig 22)
Belciana
bicolor Wileman & West, 1929, Novit.
zool., 35: 23.
Diagnosis. This species resembles biformis
but is smaller, with the forewing a slightly less emerald green. The triangle
medially on the costa is relatively larger. The medial fascia posterior to the
triangle is finer, and is often accompanied by a fine, black, zigzag postmedial
and sometimes a similar antemedial. The male genitalia differ from those of biformis
and have relatively shorter, broader valves with massive coremata. The harpe is
relatively longer and has a lateral tooth. The aedeagus vesica has denser and
more ordered arrays of cornuti retricted to the basal zone; these cornuti are
more even in size than in biformis.
Geographical range. Philippines (Mindanao), Borneo,
Sumatra.
Habitat preference. Specimens have been recorded in recent
surveys from Seria on the coast and from lowland forest at 300m in the Ulu
Temburong. There is also a singleton from Samarinda in the lowlands of
Kalimantan.
