Caduca
phronimus Rothschild stat. n.
Caduca
albopunctata phronimus Rothschild, 1920, J. Fed. Malay St. Mus.,
8: 121.
Diagnosis.
The hindwings are similar to those of albopunctata, though more obscurely marked. The
forewings are paler, particularly basal to the postmedial where they are more of
a bone colour and fasciated irregularly darker; only the costa is dark brown,
broken by bars of the bone colour, the brown broadest in a central triangle.
Taxonomic
note. The specific status of phronimus is
indicated by sympatry with allopunctata and differences in the male genitalia as
well as facies: the processes of the valves are broader; the saccus is bilobed.
Geographical
range. Sumatra, Borneo, Thailand (VK).
Habitat
preference. The species is much rarer than albopunctata,
with three specimens recorded in recent surveys, two from lowland forest (150m
on G. Mulu and 300m in the Ulu Temburong) and one from lower montane forest
(900m on G. Api).
