Brontypena
eximia Pagenstecher sensu Holloway, 1976: 37.
Diagnosis.
See the generic account; the labial palps are unusually long. The forewings have
a dead leaf pattern and shape reminiscent of that of the very much larger Phyllodes
Boisduval
species; some variants have irregular areas of pale yellow at the dorsum.
However, the hindwings lack any flash coloration, being a uniform brown grey
except towards the costa, which is pale.
Taxonomic
note. The synonymy of this species with the type species by Poole
(1989) is erroneous: eximia
has
a yellow hindwing with a narrow dark brown border.
Geographical
range. Sundaland.
Habitat
preference. Four specimens were taken in alluvial and wet heath forest
types along the course of the S. Melinau during the Mulu survey, none above
200m. However, one was taken at 1930m on G. Kinabalu. There is also older
material from Samarinda in the lowlands of Kalimantan.
