Avitta
ochromarginata Pagenstecher
Avitta
ochromarginata Pagenstecher, 1894, Jb. nassau. Ver. Naturk.
47: 50.
Diagnosis.
The deep, dull orange forewings with a series of black fasciae distally,
combined with the black hindwings with yellow margins, render this species
unmistakable.
Taxonomic
note. Only female material was available for study. Placement within Avitta
sensu stricto requires confirmation on characters of male genitalia. The
holotype is male but has not been examined. The female genitalia have the ostium
associated with the eighth segment as in Avitta,
but, though the lamella postvaginalis is scobinate, the two scobinate lobes
often seen in typical Avitta are absent. The ostium narrows sharply into a long,
slender ductus bursae. The corpus bursae is ovate, weakly and finely scobinate
throughout.
Geographical
range. Java, Sumatra (HS / K), Borneo.
Habitat
preference. The only Bornean specimens seen are single females from
Samarinda in the lowlands of Kalimantan from dry heath forest at 15m in the
Telisai area of Brunei and from lowland dipterocarp forest at 170m near the
Danum Valley Field Centre in Sabah.
