Diagnosis.
The forewings are a dark purplish brown-grey, richly suffused with orange and
crossed by a grey double postmedial fascia of variable width.
Taxonomic
note. Placement of this species has been difficult as almost all
specimens located have been female. However, a male from Sulawesi proved to have
genitalia more or less typical of Lineopalpa,
particularly the uncus structure; the valves, though not bifid, are slender
distally as in other species. The anellar tube is sclerotised as in birena
and
orsara.
The eighth segment is also compatible, though the anterior part of the sternal
frame is bow-shaped. The female has the ductus bursae similar to that of birena
but
much longer and more slender. There are two signa central to the corpus bursae,
consisting of obtusely triangular, scobinate invaginations.
Geographical
range. Borneo, Sumatra (HS / ZSM), Java, Sulawesi, Seram, New Guinea
(Mackey coll.).
Habitat
preference. This is a montane species, the synonym eueres
being
described from Mt. Matang in Sarawak. The species has been taken subsequently
singly at 1930m on G. Kinabalu and at 1000m and 1780m on G. Mulu.
