Polypogon albapex
Figure 322

Diagnosis.
Compared to adda, the forewing postmedial is much less divergent towards the apex, and the white is restricted sharply to a small patch, anteriorly excavate, subapically. The hindwing submarginal is slightly flexed centrally, and the postmedials of fore- and hindwings are more distant from the discal marks, that of the forewing straight over the posterior two-thirds rather than gently outcurved. In the male, the forelegs have a blackish hair-pencil. The male genitalia have the saccular process extending further distad than in adda, and the valve apex is more rounded. The vesica has four small diverticula and the aedeagus lacks subapical spining.

Taxonomic note. Bornean material differs slightly from the type specimen (Naga Hills) which is very slightly paler, with hardly any white delineation of the submarginals, that of the hindwing being mainly straight. In Sri Lankan material, the basal part of the wings is greyer, grading black into the submarginals, which are white-edged and define slightly broader marginal strips.

Geographical range. N.E. Himalaya; Sri Lanka; Borneo, Bangka I.

Habitat preference. Only three specimens have been seen, all from G. Marapok in Sabah and without altitude data.
