Chusaris obliquisignata sp. n.

Chusaris obliquisignata
Figure 367

9mm. This is a very similar species to signicosta in colour and facies, except the medial and submarginal black marks on the forewing costa are narrow, oblique, rather than triangular, and the pale submarginal fascia is broader, though obscure. The black fasciae at the hindwing dorsum, when present, are single, separate, whereas in signicosta there is usually a double central one. The male genitalia differ considerably, with the valves being very narrow, slightly tapering, and without processes except for a small subbasal lobe centrally.

Holotype . SARAWAK: Gunong Mulu Nat. Park, R.G.S. Exped. 1977-8 (J.D. Holloway et al.), Site 25, April, G. Api, 900m. 427550, lower montane forest, BM noctuid slide 20033.

Paratype . General data as holotype except Site 27, April, G. Api, 1500m, Pandanus Camp, 429541, scrub, Pandanus.

Taxonomic note. A further male from Mesilau at 1500m on G. Kinabalu (slide 20075) has genitalia similar to those of the holotype, but the black medial and antemedial marks have developed into entire, oblique fasciae across the wing (Plate 6: 40). It is probably a form of obliquisignata.

Geographical range. Borneo.

Habitat preference. All three specimens are from montane forest, the typical pair from the limestone G. Api.
