6mm. This species is the first of the four mentioned in the generic account where R1 of the forewing is convergent for a short distance on the R2-4 stem. The forewings in all these species are slightly narrower than in those from vexataria to brachypalpia described above. The wings of dohertyi are pale bonecolour, marked with ochreous brown and blackish brown as in brachypalpia, but the fasciation is more regular, that of the forewing fine with little dark brown, and generally angled in some way subcostally, particularly the postmedial. On the hindwing there is a similar series of fasciae, but the medial and, more emphatically, the postmedial are blackish brown. There is a series of blackish brown marginal bars in the spaces, and a broken and stepped blackish brown streak bisects the angle of the forewing distal margin. In the male genitalia, the uncus is long, slender, flexed downwards, and the tegumen is expanded on each side ventrally where it articulates with what appears to be a paratergal sclerite. There is a juxta shaped like an inverted ‘V’. The valves are robust, tapering from a broad base, with a distinct, central, interior lobe and a comb of rod-like processes around one side of the rounded apex.
