14-15mm. In facies and size this species resembles more the Hypena species with a triarcuate forewing postmedial such as robustalis and ischyra, rather than the small species of Dichromia with this feature described above, in that the forewing is a relatively uniform dark brown, and the apical lens is rarely conspicuous. The postmedial is relatively shallowly triarcuate. However, the male genitalia are typical of Dichromia and are distinguished in having a very small, setose, ampullate process just exterior (ventral) to the distal part of the basal pleat of the valve. This is much smaller than the process in D. occatus Moore, and is directed towards the valve apex rather than ventrad, but is in a similar position.

Taxonomic note. A possible female (slide 9481) from 1200m at Bundu Tuhan on the slopes of G. Kinabalu has facies similar to that of females of H. robustalis but is larger. The ductus bursae is long and slender, and the corpus bursae is almost spherical rather than elongate and narrow. Similar species from Sulawesi (slide 19576) and Seram (slide 19587), with darker more uniform forewings that have a much straighter postmedial, also shared the feature of the process on the male genitalia. They may be closely related, if not conspecific, to ampullata. The Sulawesi species is slightly larger.
Geographical range. Borneo, ?Java (slide 19299).
Habitat preference. The species is uncommon, but recorded from the lowlands to 1930m, more frequently in the former, in both forested and disturbed biotopes.
