Diagnosis. Slightly larger than vagalis, this species is darker and has a finer white fascia on the forewing that is slightly dentate in the discal area but does not enclose an area of ground colour. There is also a slight subdorsal dentation. In the male genitalia, the uncus is much more elongate and slender than in vagalis, without a ventral bulge to the scoop. The valves are entire apically, rather than bifid, though the costal margin has an obtuse angle subapically.
Taxonomic note. Lödl (1999c) confirmed that the species belonged to Catada but queried the validity of the synonymy of antipodalis.
Geographical range. Andamans, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra (Lödl, 1998a, 1999e), Borneo, Buru (antipodalis), New Guinea, Bismarcks.
Habitat preference. Four specimens have been recorded in recent surveys, three from the understorey of dipterocarp forest at 150-170m near the Danum Valley Field Centre in Sabah and one from wet heath forest on a river terrace at a similar altitude, west of the Melinau Gorge near G. Mulu.
