Catada
canaliferalis
Moore Cyclopteryx canaliferalis Moore, 1877, Proc. zool. Soc. Lond., 1877: 613.
Catada canaliferalis
Diagnosis. This and the next two species are characterised by very uniform medium ochreous brown forewings that are divided medially by a white fascia. There are also small white flecks towards the distal end of the forewing costa. The thorax is the same general colour as the forewing except the patagia, which are white. In canaliferalis the forewing fascia encloses a small triangle of ground colour in the discal area. The male genitalia have the valves apically bifid with the large basal coremata typical of the genus. The scaphium is rectangular, with five short spines along its distal edge.
Habitat preference. The species has not often been taken in recent surveys, but older material is mostly from localities at low elevation: Pulo Laut; Kuching; Sandakan; the Baram area. The highest record is from 1000m on G. Poeh in Sarawak, and several specimens were taken in the understorey of old secondary forest at the foot of G. Dulit. Twelve specimens were taken in the understorey of primary forest near the Danum Valley Field Centre (S.J. Willott, unpublished) and one has been seen from forest at Barito Ulu in Kalimantan.
Biology. The larva is recorded as feeding on Styrax (Styracaceae) in Peninsular Malaysia (Robinson et al., 2001).
