Maurilia undaira

Maurilia undaira

Diagnosis and taxonomic note.
See the previous species. The male genitalia have the valve costal process long, curved (longer and more strongly curved in material from west of New Guinea). The aedeagus vesica lacks cornuti. The anellus/juxta setal patch is small, the setae also small, except in the type specimen of fig. 4 for undaira, hereby designated LECTOTYPE (BM noctuid slide 16816), as the specimen with genitalia illustrated in fig. 3A has the diagnostic genitalic features of iconica. M. undaira is typically from New Guinea and the lectotype is the only male specimen located from there. Those from further west differ slightly in genitalia as indicated; the name rufescentibrunnea Gaede is available for these.

Geographical range. New Guinea; Singapore, Sumatra, Borneo, Seram (ssp. rufescentibrunnea).

Habitat preference. The species has been taken infrequently in a wide range of vegetation types from the lowlands to almost 2000m. Chey (1994) took Maurilia with some frequency in secondary and plantation forest in the lowlands of Sabah.
