Arna micronides
van Eecke
comb. n. & stat. rev.
Euproctis
micronides van Eecke, 1928, Zool. Meded. Leiden, 11: 124.
Diagnosis and taxonomic note. As indicated above, micronides is probably the
female of minutissima: it is larger than the male and has a dark grey
hindwing. The submarginal spot typically may be joined by a second one in a more
apical position. Female genitalia characters of this and the next species
indicate that they are distinct, rather than conspecific as suggested by
Schintlmeister (1994). In micronides the base of the ductus and the
ostium are much as in erema Collenette from Peninsular Malaysia. This
species resembles perplexa Swinhoe more in facies but has less intense or
extensive brown irroration on both wings.
Geographical range. Sumatra, Borneo.
Habitat preference. The species has only been taken at the Danum Valley
Field Centre, Sabah, in both primary forest and logged areas.
