Nyctemera
tripunctaria Linnaeus
Phalaena Geometra tripunctaria Linnaeus,
1758, Syst. Nat. edn. 10, 3: 523.
Nyctemera tripunctaria Linnaeus;
Roepke, 1949: 601, 1957: 158; Holloway, 1976: 5.
Diagnosis. The unbroken postmedial white bar combined with a longitudinal white
streak posterior to the cell on the forewing and a hindwing border with an
internal angle at vein CuA2 distinguishes this species. In the male genitalia
the costal process is curved, apically acute, but basally broader than in kiauensis.
Taxonomic notes. The specimen in Linnaeus' collection matches those from Thailand and
Vietnam in the BMNH (= celsa Walker). Bornean material is best referred
to the Sumatran race, optata Swinhoe.
Geographical range. S. China, Thailand, Vietnam, Sundaland, Philippines,
Sulawesi.
Habitat preference. In Borneo tripunctaria is rarely encountered,
usually in open and disturbed habitats in the lowlands.
Biology. Flight is by day.
