Amata brooksi sp. n.

Amata brooksi (paratype)

14mm, 15mm.This species has the same white markings on black wings as the elisa group, but the forewings are more elongate, narrow, as are the white markings, particularly the distal pair. The two specimens are worn so it is uncertain whether the forewing apex is white as in the next two species. The abdomen has basal and distal rings as in elisa but they are white as in the next two species. In the male genitalia the aedeagus vesica has one row of cornuti set distally in the vesica, densely packed together, with an isolated pair of cornuti on the opposite side. The right valve is triangular, one strong angle subbasally on the costa; the left valve is more irregular. The basal costal processes of the valves are sharply angled centrally, the right one longer, apically bifid.

Holotype Bidi, SARAWAK, 1907-1908 (C.J. Brooks) BM arctiid slide 4217.

Paratypes: 1 as holotype.

Geographical range. Borneo.

Habitat preference. Both specimens are from the same lowland locality.
