Callidula
jucunda Felder & Felder
Callidula jucunda Felder & Felder, 1874, Reise öst.
Fregatte Novara (Zool.), 2: p1. 107.
Diagnosis and taxonomic note. Both this and the next species have the orange area
of the forewing extending towards the base of the wing in the costal half and
stopping at least 1.5mm away from the distal margin. The markings are much
redder in jucunda. Males have the hindwing costa diagnostically white, as
can be seen in the plate of the original description. This is the only one of
the two species recorded from Java, the type locality of jucunda, though
they have been confused in the literature in the past. (See
Callidula
waterstradti sp. n)
Geographical range. Sundaland.
Habitat preference. Most Bornean material seen is from the Kinabalu area
collected by Waterstradt. None has altitude or other habitat data. It is
possibly a lower montane, rather than lowland species, as Javan material is
montane.
