Diagnosis. This is one of the two Bornean representatives of the group of species,
mostly Australasian, with a prominent white zone along the hindwing costa. It is
smaller than its congener, a darker, more uniform grey with the hindwing
postmedial fine, red, extending into the costal white zone. The postmedials of
both wings are closer to the margin in the female.
Taxonomic note. The most easterly member of this group is P. cythera Swinhoe
comb. n. from Fiji.
Geographical range. Borneo.
Habitat preference. The holotype male is from the low-lying southern
Bornean island of Pulo Laut. A female has been taken subsequently by S. J. Willott
in primary lowland dipterocarp forest at 170m near the Danum Valley Field Centre,
Sabah.
