Ozola
falcipennis Moore
Metabraxas falcipennis Moore,
1888, Descr. new Indian Lep. Insects Colln Atkinson, p. 266.
Ozola falcipennis apiletica Prout,
1932, J. Fed. Malay States Mus., 17: 43.
Ozola falcipennis apiletica Prout;
Holloway, 1976: 59.
Diagnosis. This species in Borneo and O. liwana Sommerer are very similar
externally, differing from O. prouti Holloway in having the grey patch at
the centre of the costa separate from the marginal grey zone rather than fused
to it: there is also a prominent grey patch at the base of the dorsum.
Differences between apiletica and liwana, apart from the
distinctive male genitalia, are in the forewing marginal grey zone: its interior
margin is centrally excavated in liwana, protruding in apiletica; the
subapical white spot present in most apiletica specimens is lacking in liwana.
Taxonomic notes. O. intransilis Prout (Sumatra, Java) has similar male genitalia to
falcipennis and is probably the sister-species.
Geographical range. Himalaya; Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo (ssp. apiletica).
Habitat preference. A montane species, O. falcipennis occurs in
the lower montane zone, increasing in frequency in the upper montane zone. The
highest record is from 1930m on G. Kinabalu.
