Cossus retak sp. n.

Cossus retak (holotype)

22mm. This species is as large as vandeldeni and has the ventral anterior of the prothorax dark as in that species, but both patagia and tegulae are darker than the pale cream-yellow centre of the thorax, rather than just the tegulae. There is a pair of dark brown spots dorsally at the base of the abdomen. The forewing ground colour is white, heavily blotched and reticulated with dark grey as illustrated, with some entire but irregular transverse striae towards the margin.

The male genitalia have the uncus narrow relative to the tegumen, tapering slightly to a rounded apex. The bulla is deep. The valve is apically biangular, upcurved, without distal ornament. The basal spine is robust.

Geographical range. Borneo.
