Diagnosis. This is a small pinkish fawn species that resembles the decretaria Walker
group described next, but the fasciation of both wings is heavily suffused and
dotted with black.
Taxonomic notes. Males are not known. General genitalic features are shared with the next
species, perscripta Prout. There are coremata in the male fourth sternite
and basal to the genitalia. The latter are complex, with bilateral asymmetry
about a central rod of fused hairs. The aedeagus apex is convolute. The uncus is
vestigial. In thermosaria the central rod of fused hairs is shorter,
broader than that of perscripta, and the valves are more elongate, with a
larger costal flap on the right one. In the female genitalia the ostial plate is
much broader, rounded by rectangular in thermosaria, elongate-ovate in perscripta.
The ductus is broader and without distinct zones of sclerotisation in thermosaria;
these are present in perscripta. The female from the Mergui Is. has a
narrower ostial plate than in typical thermosaria and a more sclerotised
ductus. Its status is unclear.
Geographical range. Borneo, Sumatra, Singapore, India; Mergui Is.
(Burma).
Habitat preference. The holotype is probably from a lowland locality in
Sarawak (A.R. Wallace material).
