SUBFAMILY ARAEOPTERONINAE

Sigela Hulst

Type species: penumbrata Hulst, U.S.A.

Synonyms: Lycaugesia Hampson (type species hypozonata Hampson, Panama) praeocc. (see Nye, 1975); Pseudcraspedia Hampson (type species punctata Hampson, Sikkim); Quandara Nye (type species hypozonata).

This genus was assigned to the Araeopteroninae by Fibiger & Lafontaine (2005). All species except the one below are Neotropical. The general appearance is as in Araeopteron, but the venation differs, illustrated by Hampson (1910). In the forewing, R1 arises independently from the cell but the remaining radial sector veins form a branching system: ((R2(R3, R4))R5), though R5 may be connate. In both fore- and hindwings, M3 and CuA1 are stalked, and Rs and M1 are stalked in the hindwing.
