Panilla
homospila Hampson
Panilla
homospila Hampson, 1914, Ann. Mag. nat. Hist. (8),
13: 207.
Diagnosis.
The general colour is a dark greyish brown with irregular, paler fasciation. The
postmedials are broken, with black lunules on the basal side of the fascia;
these are strongest towards the dorsum of the hindwings. On the forewing, the
submarginal is close to the postmedial over its posterior half but then diverges
from it towards the costa to enclose a triangular space that contains smaller
blackish triangles within its posterior and basal angles.
Taxonomic
note. The facies and male genitalia are very similar to those of the
type species, but the latter have the strongly sclerotised part of the valve
apically oblique and bearing a few small spines, rather than bifid.
Geographical
range. Borneo.
Habitat
preference. The holotype was taken in Sandakan on the coast of Sabah. There
is also a series taken 85 miles above (upstream from?) Pontianak in Kalimantan.
