Toxoproctis cosmia Collenette
comb. n.
Euproctis
cosmia Collenette,
1932, Novit. zool., 38: 76.
Diagnosis. This species and the new one described next resemble cheela (See
Toxoproctis cheela Swinhoe comb.n) to some extent, but have the grey areas darker, that on the forewing with
a more clearly defined, convex distal margin, and that on the hindwing more
extensive with a somewhat angled distal margin. Distinctive features of the male
genitalia are noted in the diagnosis of the next species.
Taxonomic note. T. eumorpha Collenette comb. n. (Peninsular Malaysia) is
similar to cosmia but has the grey areas of the wings extending further
towards the margins, particularly on the forewing. However, eumorpha has
genitalia as in cosmia rather than as in the next species which is also
more grey.
Geographical range. Sundaland.
Habitat preference. All material seen is from lowland forest, the highest
record being from 250m.
