16-17mm. This species is allied to pseudextensa from which it can
be distinguished by a short zone of white fringe scales at the forewing apex,
and a narrower, more elongate subapical transparent patch. Comparison of male
genitalia is precluded as the only specimen of pseudextensa is female.
The female of the Bukit Pagon race (see below) differs in having the lamella
postvaginalis modified into a conical pouch.
Holotype SARAWAK: Gunong Mulu Mat. Park, R.G.S. Exped. 1977-8 (J.D. Holloway
et al.) BM 1978-206. Site 5, January, Camp 4 Mulu 1780m 451463 [upper montane
forest], BM arctiid slide 4141.
Paratypes: 8 with general data as
holotype: 4 as holotype; 2 at Site 1, 1790m
452463; 1 at Site 2, 1790m 452463: 1 at G. Mulu subsummit, 2100m 464465.
The species is represented by three montane races in N. Sarawak and
Brunei. The typical race from G. Mulu has the most extensive transparent areas
though that posterior to vein CuA2 is divided; they are diagnostically tinged
yellowish. The dark areas of the wings are slightly paler, browner than in other
races. The abdominal segments are all ringed with dull yellow.
