Paramaxates
macrocerata Yazaki
Paramaxates macrocerata Yazaki,
1988b: 113.
Diagnosis. This species, yazakii and the rest of the vagata Walker
complex have very similar facies, and are best distinguished on characters of
the male (and sometimes the female) genitalia. The basal parts of both wings are
more darkly mottled in macrocerata, and the pale medial zone of the
hindwing below is narrower, its edge with the submarginal dark band straighter
than in the next species though not as straight as in posterecta where
that dark band is narrower, and the basal half of the wing is paler. Females
above are more strongly variegated.
Geographical range. Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia (FRIM colln), Borneo.
Habitat preference. This is a rare species of lowland forest, so far only known from
four specimens from Brunei.
