10-13mm. Externally
similar to melancholica, M. lugubriosa has a distinctive male abdomen.
The eighth sternite has its distal margin bilobed. The saccus of the genitalia
is narrow. The sacculus has a small lobe that has short spines subapically,
dorsally. The ventral process of the valve has a transverse flange at its apex.

Geographical
range. Borneo, Java.
Habitat preference. All material is from lowland forest, including swamp forest and
coastal vegetation. The species is rare. Only dissected specimens are cited as
types.
