Maxates obliterata sp. n.
9-11mm. This is a
small species similar to M. melancholica in colour and appearance, but
with the white fasciae almost obsolete. In the male genitalia there is a
disc-like plate at the apex of the sacculus, just basal to the ventral process.
The latter is apically bifid. The eighth sternite has a rugose, triangular
process at the centre of the distal margin.
Holotype SARAWAK: Gunung Mulu
Nat. Park, R.G.S Exped. 1977-8 (J.D. Holloway et al.) Site 7, January,
Long Pala (Base) 50m. 324450, alluvial / secondary forest. BM geometrid
slide 10732.
Paratype General data as
holotype but Site 8, February, Camp 1, Mulu 150m, 385470, mixed
dipt. for., BM geometrid slide 10663.
Geographical range. Borneo.
Habitat preference. All material is from lowland forest, including coastal and
secondary forest at Seria, Brunei. Only dissected material is cited in the type
series.
